That’s right, Baby Green is busy making me nauseous growing and will debut in October! Our year in Korea was such a blast that we waited until we were Hawaii-bound to try for Baby G. We will be in Hawaii for three years and this warm, relaxing island is the perfect place to start our family.
This will be our first child, the first grandchild for Johnnie’s parents, the 6th grandchild for my parents, and the 13th great-grandchild for my grandmother. This baby is already loved by so many people!
I have no intentions of turning our “travel blog” into a baby blog. However I do want to keep our family and friends (and any other interested people) updated with Baby G’s progress. Therefore, I will limit pregnancy updates to one day a week and that day will be Friday. Starting tomorrow, “Family Friday” will feature photos and an open and honest weekly update of our pregnancy.
Johnnie has been amazing throughout the pregnancy so far. He was even willing to participate in my idea for the photo pregnancy announcement! I’ve been a Pinterest fan for a few months now and have seen some great ideas for pregnancy announcements there. I was inspired by the two photos below and combined both of those ideas to come up with the idea for our announcement.
The couples in the photos above may have actually used a photo booth to create their cute announcements. We decided to create our photo booth picture strip digitally. The only thing we had to buy was the picture frame and a piece of black craft paper. We sat facing a large window for natural light and draped a white sheet over some chairs sitting on top of a desk for our backdrop. I have a remote control for my camera so we snapped away! We took about 50 photos and had a great time doing it 🙂
We went through all of the photos and picked out 4 to use in our announcement. I then used Photoshop to switch the black paper in the frame to a picture of a chalkboard and added white text. I created a simple photo strip template 6″ long and 1.5″ wide and added our chosen pictures. Easy!
Since our family is all far away, we printed out 8×10 photos and showed them one by one to our parents over Skype to announce the news. We emailed our photo strip to the rest of our family to let them know and then posted the picture on Facebook a few days after that.
I printed out the photo strips and added adhesive magnetic sheeting on the back to create a “save the date” magnet for our parents and siblings. I handmade the cards that I mailed them in simply using scrapbooking paper, ribbon, baby embellishments, double-sided tape, and scissors. I found a stamp for the back that says “handcrafted with aloha”. I have a feeling that I will be doing many crafty projects throughout this pregnancy 🙂
You're sooo creative! I love the idea of the baby announcement and I LOOOVE it how you showed us how you DIY at home! Thats AWESOME! Thank you so much for the tips! I really thought you guys had it professionally done! haha 🙂
Thank you Chelsea!! 🙂
Oh my gosh!!!! CONGRATS! I'm so excited for you guys! You're going to be amazing parents. 🙂 And lovvvve the baby announcements. Such a creative way to share the news!
Thank you Erin 🙂 I hope you love Happy Quilt as much as I did! I stocked up before moving and packed two huge plastic totes full of fabric. Enjoy your time in Korea (it goes fast!) and experience everything you can!
How FUNNY! I was just thinking the same thing as Jessica when I stumbled upon the Happy Quilt post, as I prepare for my first visit tomorrow… "Oh cool! A crafter, adventurer military spouse who really sounds like my kinda girl!" read a couple more posts…read some more… "Dangit. She's already gone." lol
Congrats on your new adventure! 😉
Erin
Thank you Jill! We are excited to be here although it still freaks me out a little that we are on a small island in the middle of the ocean. I can't wait to get settled here (in order words, get a house) and start exploring every part of the rock 🙂
Thank you! Dulce will be a great big sister for sure!
Thank you Sierra!
Congrats! Dulce is going to be a big sister!
Found you post through Pinterest. Congratulations on the baby. We are a AF family living on Oahu too. I hope you like it here, we do. It has been a great place to raise a family. Enjoy your time on the "rock".
What a cute idea! You are very talented 🙂
Thank you, that's so sweet! We are very excited 🙂
Thank you Jessica! Wow, Seoul for 3-5 years? I know it's a compromise living in Korea but still, living in Seoul would be awesome! I love that city and I know I only covered a fraction of it during our year in Korea. I hope that you explore the country and enjoy it as much as I did! My biggest recommendation is hiking, especially in the spring and fall – gorgeous! One of my favorites – Songnisan National Park:

I'm so glad to know that there are people using the information that I blogged about 🙂
Wonderful news! I can't imagine a better set of parents to bring a new human being into our world:>)
Congrats! I found you in my search for Happy Quilt. Even though you've left Korea (which for some reason I'm extraordinarily sad about even though I don't know you?!?), thanks for all the info you have for us military type families! We'll be in Seoul for the next 3-5 years and will be referring to your blog many times, I'm sure.
