The official currency of South Korea is called Won. The paper bills most commonly come in denominations of 1000, 5000, 10000, and 50000. The coins most commonly come in denominations of 10, 50, 100, and 500.
The exchange rate of United States Dollars to Korean Won varies daily. For example, the exchange rate as I’m typing this 1,121 KRW to 1 USD. In general when I’m out shopping, it’s easy to remember that 1,000 KRW is close to 1 USD. So if something costs 20,000 KRW, you can assume that it’s a little less than 20 USD.
